New Orleans Saints vs Atlanta Falcons is the NFL's Thursday Night Football game this week, in what should be an offensive extravaganza between two of the most attacking teams in the league. The game is scheduled to start at 8.20 p.m. ET and can be watched online through free live stream (details below).
This NFC South face off promises to be one of the best Thursday Night Football games of the season, with the high flying Atlanta Falcons coming into the game with a near-perfect record of 10-1, facing off against a dangerous and attacking-minded New Orleans Saints, who are currently 5-6.
Both Drew Brees and Matt Ryan have each thrown for at least 3,300 yards and 21 touchdowns, which just goes to show what an offensive battle this promises to be.
Most pundits place the Falcons as clear favorites for this match up, with power houses Roddy White, Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez likely to be too much for a shaky Saints' defensive unit.
These two teams already met together in Week 10, and that game produced a high-scoring game with a total of 58 points scored through the match up. This week is unlikely to be any different.
At the moment the Falcons are in complete control of the division and even if they lose tonight they will remain in a completely dominant position. With 10 wins already they are almost certainly already guaranteed a playoff place come the end of the regular season. However, they will know how important it is to hit the postseason with the winning habit, and they will not want to let up until the Super Bowl trophy is in their hands.
The Saints meanwhile have it all to do. With a record under .500 they are desperate for a series of wins to propel them into the postseason calendar. Some pundits are already suggesting that New Orleans must win this game and every game after this to make the playoffs this season.
Most are expecting a fast, action-packed, fun-filled game tonight, but it should not be underestimated the rivalry between the two teams. Thanks to a number of recent incidents the two sides could easily allow tensions to rise at some point during or after tonight's game. Some will remember the Saints hosting a posedown on the Falcons' logo, and others will remember Saints' quarterback Drew Brees breaking the single-season yardage record late in a 29-point game last season. Furthermore, Saints's new star line backer Curtis Lofton will be facing his old team this week and has been happy to offer them little in the way of respect since leaving.
